Coaching

Thinking about coaching?  Great!  Coaching kids sports can be one of the most rewarding experiences.  We do our best to provide our coaches with the knowledge and support necessary to have a great season.

If you are interested in coaching a Recreational or Micro team you will need to log in and register yourself to coach.  Once registered a background check will be completed by the Oregon Youth Soccer Association.  Be sure to let us know which player(s) you are registering to coach (email: rec@canbysoccer.org).  Any person who will be on the field with players must complete a background check.

Please don't hesitate to register.  If you're thinking about coaching, we'd like to hear from you.  At times we are short coaches, and often hear parents thought someone else was going to sign up.  If you're interested we could use your help.

The Commitment:  We're often asked, "What's the commitment?"
Coaching is a rewarding experience, but does require a significant amount of time and effort.
We don't want to scare anyone away, so here's the info:

Practices- Two days a week (You're the coach you pick the days!) 1.5 - 2 hours (beginning Mid-August).
Games- Fall season typically consists of 12 games (2 games will be played on weeknights at the end of September) games are held on Saturdays, September10- November 12.
Coaches Meeting- Early August- actual date TBA (This is where you'll get your team roster, rules, equipment, etc...)
Coaches Clinic(s)- If you're a new coach or a seasoned pro, it's always fun to see what's new in the game.  Clinics help to prepare our new coaches and provide development opportunities for returning coaches.  Clinics are required for first time coaches, and every other year for returning coaches.  Dates to be announced, but are generally held on Saturdays and last 2-4 hours depending on the clinic.
Parent Meeting- The club hosts a parent meeting in late August.  The meeting date will be set over the next month.  We'll ask that you do not hold practice that night, instead bring your team and parents to the meeting.
Fall Classic Tournament-  September 24-25.  This is our major fundraiser and helps us to keep our fees low.  All recreational teams are required to play in the tournament.  3-4 games over 2 days.

Please feel to email Angie Hibbard, Recreational League Coordinator with any questions at rec@canbysoccer.org.

*Registering to coach does not guarantee placement or a coaching position.  Typically returning Fall coaches in good standing are rostered first, and then new coaches are assigned as needed.  Canby United Soccer Association reserves the right to assign all coaches to teams in any manner it deems necessary.
